Past Best Director Oscar winner Chloé Zhao adapted the 2020 novel with its author Maggie O'Farrell to create this intimate historical biopic about William Shakespeare (Paul Mescal) and his wife Anne Hathaway (Jessie Buckley), who experience tragedy as a family. The profound grief that tragedy created influenced not only their marriage but also Shakespeare as he channels the pain to write Hamlet.
