Director Park Chan-wook's films range in periods, subject materials, and themes, but audiences can bank on some questionable moral choices laced throughout an intricate plot all captured with stunning cinematography (think: Oldboy, The Handmaiden, Decision to Leave). His latest film is a dark satire, which won the International People's Choice Award at the Toronto Film Festival and fits perfectly alongside his past work. Adapted from Donald E. Westlake's novel The Ax, the story follows Man-su (Lee Byung-hun) on his desperate hunt for a new job after his abrupt layoff from the paper company he served for 25 years. Man-su's efforts to retain employment grow increasingly desperate as the number of jobs dwindles due to AI, and the brutal job market leads to brutality among his coworkers.
