Spend an evening overlooking the iconic field at Notre Dame Stadium as Thomas Südhof, M.D., who won the 2013 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine, accepts the Rev. Carrier Medal.
Astonishing advances in human genetics have provided a new perspective on the pathophysiology of Alzheimer’s disease, but how the genes associated with Alzheimer’s contribute to the devastating pathology of the disease remains largely unclear.
In his presentation, Dr. Südhof will describe recent studies from his laboratory that illustrate how investigations into the cell biology of neurons and glia have the potential to provide insight into the molecular mechanisms of Alzheimer’s disease, and might lead to better therapies.
A reception, including hors d'oeuvres and soft drinks, will follow the lecture, with beer or wine available for purchase (credit or debit cards only).

The Rev. Joseph Carrier C.S.C. Science Medal is the most prestigious award presented by the College of Science, and is given for sustained, outstanding achievements in any field of science. It is awarded annually, alternating between the mathematical, physical, chemical, and biological sciences.
