COVID-19 Memorial Observance and Prayer Service

-

Location: Main Quad, near the statue of Father Sorin

Campus Ministry will hold a memorial observance to honor the more than 2.5 million lives lost worldwide to the pandemic. The Basilica bells will toll at 5:45 p.m. and at 6 p.m. there will be a brief prayer service led by Rev. Pete McCormick, C.S.C., on Main Quad near the statue of Rev. Edward Sorin, C.S.C., founder of the University.

Following the service, students, faculty, and staff are invited to take a candle and return it to the Grotto in thoughtful, prayerful remembrance of the lives lost throughout the global pandemic.

Grotto candles accompanied by small flags will remain on sidewalks on the east end of South Quad for Notre Dame community members to return to the Grotto at their convenience through 5 p.m. Friday, March 5. If the candles have already been taken from the Quad, students, faculty, and staff are still invited to take a short walk of remembrance to the Grotto to light a candle and pray for those who have lost their lives to COVID-19.

All are invited to participate in this prayerful tribute to those, both known and unknown, who have perished from COVID-19 since the novel coronavirus claimed its first life last year.
