Three years ago, university president Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C., announced that Notre Dame would stop using coal by 2020, reduce its carbon emissions 50% by 2030 and 83% by 2050, and invest $113M in renewable and recoverable energy initiatives. Today, the coal piles have vastly dwindled, carbon emissions continue to decline, and numerous investments have been made to realize greater efficiencies across campus.

Paul Kempf, senior director of utilities and maintenance at Notre Dame, will provide an update on the state of the campus energy strategy. He will review what has been done, how far we have come, and how much farther we have to go to meet our goals. As the University grows, energy usage will become a bigger and tougher problem requiring continued investment and ingenuity. Bring your questions and learn what you can do to help.
