With Samsara, filmmaker Ron Fricke continues the legacy of the Qatsi trilogy by creating a global travelogue with pictures and music, exploring the Himalayas, the American Southwest, European cathedrals, and other beautiful sites. The focus here is the Poetic Documentary, which is a classification of films that rely less on linear continuity used to create narratives or storylines in films depicting reality. Often lushly shot, the editing of this slice of documentaries pushes for emotional experiences as opposed to the more educational approaches taken by other styles.
