-

Location: Monogram Room, Joyce Center AND presented via Zoom (View on map )

This lecture considers Dante's treatment of philosophers in Limbo, subsequent references to Aristotle, Plato and Averroes, and then his handling of philosophers in the Heaven of the Sun. The lecture highlights the richness and complexity of Dante's contact with, and poetic reworking of, late medieval currents of philosophical speculation.

He is the author of Reading Dante in Renaissance Italy: Florence, Venice and the Divine Poet (CUP 2018) and co-editor with Zygmunt Baranski of The Cambridge Companion to Dante's Commedia (CUP 2019).

This event will also be presented via Zoom webinar, so please join us even if you can't be here in person. Joining details will be provided the week of the lecture. Professor Gilson will be present via Zoom rather than in person.
