Poverty and Stress Workshop

-

Location: Geddes Hall, Coffee House (View on map )

This workshop with University faculty, staff, students and community partners will explore the connections between living in poverty and the experience of stress; we will look into the language used (such as “toxic stress”), into the evidence available for increased stress levels in situations of persistent poverty, and, most importantly we will discuss possible responses, obstacles to those responses, and facilitate an exchange about experiences. We will aim to have an external resource person with us who has successfully implemented community-university partnerships. Community partners and colleagues interested in health issues, poverty studies and their connections and who are willing to share their wisdom and expertise will work closely together to achieve actionable outcomes.

The aim of the workshop is twofold: 1) To build a community coalition for brain health, and 2) To offer the forum of a Working Group for community-based research in the area of poverty and stress. There will be a follow-up event on Friday, December 7, 9 a.m.–noon to follow up and prepare for the Brain Health Internships.

Workshop is limited to 50 attendees. Contact Paula Muhlherr with questions.
