Brook Kennedy Lecture

Brook Kennedy will give a public lecture about his industrial design career in room 200 Riley Hall.

Brook Kennedy is currently associate professor of industrial design at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, popularly known as Virginia Tech. He has a professional background in human-centered design and ergonomics, and his recent research interest is in aging, health, and sustainability. After spending 12 years in an award-winning career in product design consulting, most recently in New York City as an associate director of Industrial Design at Smart Design, Professor Kennedy has spent the last five years teaching in Virginia Tech’s well regarded College of Architecture and Urban Studies. While working in New York, he served as a visiting professor at the New School and Pratt Institute. His externally-funded research has been published widely on related topics of sustainable materials, design process and research, including a 3d Printing method for which Virginia Tech recently filed an international utility patent application.

Kennedy earned an MFA from Stanford University in Design where he was a TA for David Kelley, the renowned thought leader behind Human Centered Design and co-founder of IDEO and the d.School. Kennedy also holds a BA in Art and Art History from Reed College.
