Jim Otteson, the John T. Ryan Jr. Professor of Business Ethics, Business Honors Program Faculty Director
“An Unplanned Journey”
Reception to follow in Mendoza’s atrium from 4:00-5:30 p.m. All Notre Dame community members are welcome! Registration required.
Jim Otteson is widely recognized as a leading philosopher in business ethics and political economy. His scholarship examines the moral foundations of markets and the role business plays in a just and humane society. Otteson’s writing has helped shape contemporary conversations about how markets function and what ethical obligations individuals and institutions bear within them.
As faculty director of the Business Honors Program, Otteson has helped cultivate a community of students who are challenged to take a deeper look at the moral purpose of business and how it can contribute to human flourishing. Under his guidance, the program emphasizes both analytical rigor and moral discernment, encouraging students to think about the kind of leaders they aspire to become.
The University Chair Lecture provides an opportunity for our community to hear from a scholar whose work exemplifies Mendoza’s distinctive mission — rigorous in thought, engaged with real-world challenges and rooted in enduring questions about human flourishing. I hope you will join us for what promises to be a thoughtful and stimulating presentation.
