During this workshop, presenters Sherry Maggin and Rebecca Jones-Kellogg will discuss the use of digital bookmaking for a variety of student research and reflection projects. Through the Book Creator online platform, students create dynamic texts, incorporating photos, music, video and other media, text annotation, and various aesthetic and design features. Presenters will share experiences implementing digital bookmaking and the Book Creator platform in their language courses and will highlight a variety of examples of student work.
About the Presenters
Sherry A. Maggin is an assistant professor of Spanish and the academic program director of Spanish for the Department of Foreign Languages at the United Stated Military Academy. She received her Ph.D. in Romance Languages with a concentration in Medieval Spanish Literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2013. Her research interests include the use of digital spaces, including social media, in the foreign language classroom as well as the topics of classical mythology and the soldier-scholar figure in medieval and early modern Spain. She currently serves as the Publicity Coordinator for the International Association of Language Learning and Technology (IALLT).
Rebecca Jones-Kellogg is associate dean for curriculum and assessment and associate professor of Portuguese (Department of Foreign Languages) at the United States Military Academy. She received her Ph.D. in Portuguese from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Portuguese in 2007. While a full-time member of the Department of Foreign Languages, she served as the Department’s Director of Curriculum (2017-2019) and Portuguese Program Director (2007-2019). She is co-author of "Portuguese: A Reference Manual" and specializes in 19th-century Portuguese literature.
