Conference: "Four Years of Peace Accord Implementation: International Comparative Experiences and the Colombian Case"

This conference will present research perspectives on the first four years of implementation of the Final Peace Accord in Colombia, signed in 2016 by the Colombian government and the former FARC-EP guerrillas. This conference further will bring international comparative perspectives into conversation to provide an “eagle’s eye” view of implementation processes and trajectories. 

Panelists will include researchers from the Javeriana University, the University of Notre Dame’s Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies, and their affiliates and partners. They will analyze the Colombian peace accord and its implementation, including territorial dimensions, as well as international cases and comparative perspectives, drawing on the voices of academics, scholar-practitioners, and civil society representatives.

Panels and roundtables will offer spaces for dialogue and discussion on the following topics: 

• Structural and institutional reforms during implementation
• Political and civic participation in post-accord contexts
• Third party monitoring of peace agreements
• Reconciliation and transitional justice
• Violence and victimization in post-accord contexts
• Monitoring implementation: The experience of the Kroc Institute’s Peace Accords Matrix (PAM) Barometer Initiative in Colombia

Interpretation from English to Spanish and from Spanish to English will be provided throughout the conference.

This event is co-sponsored by the Peace Accords Matrix (PAM) program of the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies, part of the University of Notre Dame’s Keough School of Global Affairs, and the Faculty of Political Science, Javeriana University. 

PAM is a unique source of qualitative and quantitative longitudinal data on the implementation of comprehensive peace agreements negotiated since 1989. Composed of researchers and practitioners seeking to promote and facilitate a higher order of integration between these domains, PAM is pioneering innovations in peace process research and real-time monitoring of peace agreement implementation. One of PAM’s central features is the Barometer Initiative in Colombia, which is entrusted with the responsibility for real-time technical support and monitoring of the implementation of the 2016 Colombian Peace Accord.
