Frank Shovlin

Frank Shovlin, professor of Irish Literature in English, Institute for Irish Studies, University of Liverpool, will lecture on his research focused on the acclaimed Irish novelist John McGahern. McGahern was the author of six novels well known for That They May Face the Rising Sun, published in 2002 and subsequently named Irish Novel of the Year in 2003.

Professor Shovlin is a native of West Ireland and earned his BA and MA at the University College Galway before completing his PHD in Philosophy at St John’s College in Oxford. He is currently editing The Letters of John McGahern for a forthcoming Faber volume and was appointed McGahern’s authorized biographer in 2018. 

Professor Shovlin will be a short-term fellow at the Keough-Naughton Institute for Irish Studies for two weeks in September.
