On Wednesday, February 27, long-simmering tensions between India and Pakistan over the Kashmir region escalated with a new surge of violence with Indian air strikes across the border in response to a terrorist suicide bombing. While India and Pakistan’s leaders do not agree on the details of the day’s events, both countries have articulated a desire to avoid further escalation.

Join Notre Dame’s International Security Center, the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies, and the Liu Institute for Asia and Asian Studies for a panel conversation about the current situation in the Kashmir region and the risks it poses for potential nuclear escalation.

Panelists include Michael Desch, Director of the International Security Center, Eugene Gholz, Associate Professor of Political Science, Shivaji Mukherjee, Visiting Research Fellow at the Kroc Institute, and Mahan Mirza, Professor of the Practice of Contending Modernities at the Kroc Institute.

Desch will chair the discussion.

This event will be live streamed via Zoom Video Conferencing software. Live stream viewers will have a chance to pose questions to the panel via Zoom’s in-meeting chat feature. Click here to join the live stream beginning at 11:45 a.m. on Friday, March 8.

Please note that if you have not installed Zoom software before, you may be prompted to download the software before you are able to enter the video conference.
