Presentation/Q&A: "A Pedagogy of Hospitality"

-

Location: Geddes Hall, Coffee House (View on map )

Speaker: Joanna Want, assistant teaching professor, University Writing Program

Viewing the classroom as a space where diverse strangers temporarily gather, Joanna Want will discuss what hospitality used as a guiding pedagogical framework can illuminate about teaching and learning in the college classroom. The word “hospitality” can evoke contexts as different as a luxury hotel and a Catholic Worker House. But what might hospitality look like and require in an educational space? Can hospitality literally be practiced in the classroom or is it most useful as a metaphor? Prof. Want will present for 20–30 minutes, to be followed by discussion and questions. Coffee is served and all are welcome. Sponsored by the Center for Social Concerns.
