Fr. Ted Said Speaker Series: Notre Dame's Lasting Impact on Peacebuilding and Security

Saturday, June 2, 1:30-3:00 p.m., Washington Hall

War, peace, justice, security, and human rights—these were some of the most pressing issues of Fr. Hesburgh’s time, and they still persist today. Join alumni and faculty for short, inspiring talks sharing examples of how they are building peaceful, just systems and societies; developing ways to prevent and resolve war; and impacting peace and security around the world—alongside glimpses of Fr. Ted’s own vision and words. Three Kroc alumni and faculty member George A. Lopez are featured speakers.

Host: Scott Appleby ‘78, Marilyn Keough Dean, Keough School of Global Affairs

Speakers: George A. Lopez, Rev. Theodore M. Hesburgh, C.S.C., Professor Emeritus of Peace Studies, Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies; Nell Bolton '03 M.A., Justice & Peacebuilding Senior Technical Advisor, Catholic Relief Services; Jude Ash ‘17 M.A., Kroc Institute Ph.D. student, Syrian peace and human rights activist; Tona Boyd '03, U.S. Department of Justice Attorney, Civil Rights Division; and Michael C. Desch, Professor of Political Science and Director of the Notre Dame International Security Center, Kroc Institute faculty fellow.

Waging Peace Exhibit

Friday, June 1-Saturday, June 2, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., Hesburgh Center for International Studies

This exhibit features original photos, news articles and stories of soldiers and veterans who opposed the Vietnam War. The University of Notre Dame is only the second site for this exhibit to be displayed (and the first in the United States), following its display at the War Remnants Museum in the former South Vietnam capital, Ho Chi Minh City. David Cortright, Kroc's Director of Policy Studies, was instrumental in the creation of this exhibit.

You are welcome to stop by and peruse the exhibit at your convenience. For more info, visit wagingpeaceinvietnam.com
