The Department of Art, Art History & Design in conjunction with the School of Architecture and the Department of Classics presents a DeCenzo Lecture by Prof. Doct. Umberto Pappalardo, Director of the Centro Internazionale Studi Pompeiani in Pompeii. 

Umberto Pappalardo is Director of the International Center for Pompeian Studies (CISP) in Pompeii and Professor of Greek and Roman Archaeology at the Suor Orsola Benincasa University of Naples, Italy. He has directed and supervised excavations in Italy, Greece, Turkey, and Israel, and he has collaborated with the Corinth Excavations of the American School of Classical Studies at Athens. He is a member of the Italian Archaeological School at Athens, the German Archaeological Institute, the Italian Institute of Dendrochronology, the Consultancy Group of the European Parliamentary Assembly (PACT), the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, and the Japanese-German Center Berlin (JGCB).

Professor Pappalardo has published over one hundred papers in respected archaeological journals, many of which have been translated into various languages, including German, French, English, Spanish, Danish, Chinese, and Japanese.  And he has published books on La Pittura di Pompei (editions in Italian, German, French, and Japanese), Domus: Wall Painting in the Roman House (published by the Paul Getty Trust, later abridged and published by the Getty as The Splendor of Roman Wall Painting; and, most recently, Griechische und Römische Mosaiken (published by Hirmer Verlag).
