Join Professor Emeritus Thomas Kselman for a discussion of the French philosopher Ernest Renan’s struggle to reconcile Christianity with modernity and the resultant tension between realist and religious impulses in French art.

Professor Kselman teaches modern European history and is currently working on the publication of Consience and Conversion: Religious Liberty in Post-Revolutionary France (Yale University Press, 2017) featuring correspondence between the author of the controversial biography, La Vie de Jésus (1863), and the clergy.
