The first documentary about farmer-activist Wendell Berry, Look & See captures the rolling hills and close-knit community of Henry County, Kentucky – where Berry has lived and farmed since the mid-1960’s. Through Wendell’s eyes, we see both the changing landscapes of rural America in the era of industrial agriculture and the redemptive beauty in taking the unworn path.
One of America’s most significant living writers, Berry has fostered a lifelong relationship with the land and community of Henry County. In the span of a generation, the agrarian virtues of land stewardship and local, sustainable farming have been replaced by industrial agriculture characterized by machine labor, chemical fertilizers, soil erosion, and debt, all of which have frayed the fabric of rural communities. This film skillfully weaves Berry’s poetic and prophetic words with gorgeous cinematography and the testimonies of his family and neighbors.
